Early and Late Leukemias in Rats after Transplantation of Leukemic Cells from Akr Mice.

چکیده
mouse leukemia to rats ( 12). Cell suspensions from the leukemic tissues of AKR mice were injected by the sub cutaneous, intraperitoneal, or intravenous route into non inbred, newborn Wistar rats. A second inoculation of leukernic cells was given to some groups of rats 7—10days later. Single subcutaneous or intraperitoneal injections did not establish progressively growing, fatal leukemic grafts. Two consecutive intraperitoneal or intravenous injections produced death from leukemia in 39—48per cent of the recipients at the age of 3—5weeks. More than half of the rats apparently rejected the leukemic hetero grafts. However, after an interval of 12—16 weeks lymph oid leukernias were noted in some of these initially “nega tive― rats. The two leukemic manifestations were referred to as “early― and “late― leukemias because of the differences in latent periods. Further experiments revealed that cells from early leukemias were readily back-transplantable into young, adult, AKR mice. In contrast, cellular grafts from late leukernias were rejected by AKR mice. These findings pointed to differences in the antigenicity and etiology be

Chromosome studies on transplanted and virus-induced lymphoid leukemias in rats.
The i.p. transplantation of viable leukemic cells from AKR mice to newborn W /Fu rats resulted in 2 manifestations of lymphoid leukemia. An early form was characterized by growth of the transplanted leukemic cells in the abdominal cavity. Late leukemias were thymic lymphosarcomas with or without leukemic blood changes (12). Late leukemias were previously considered viral tumors induced by the l...
متن کاملProstaglandins in cells of the lymphoid system in AKR leukemia.
AKR mice develop spontaneous lymphoid leukemia late (8 to 12 months) in life, although persistent murine leukemia virus production occurs throughout their life. This suggests that age-related changes are involved in development of leukemia. Prostaglandin biosynthesis was therefore studied in 24-hr cultures in vitro at 37 degrees of peritoneal macrophages, splenocytes, thymocytes, bone marrow, a...
متن کاملHeterotransplantation of spontaneous leukemia of AKR mice into newborn rats.
Spontaneous lymphoid leukemia of the inbred AKR strain was transplanted into newborn rats, not later than 24 hours after birth. Two intraperitoneal or intravenous injections, spaced 7-10 days apart, resulted in progressive, fatal growth. Single subcutaneous or intraperitoneal injections of leukemic cell suspensions did not establish permanent heterografts. Serial passage was successful in newbo...
متن کاملMonoclonal antibody therapy of spontaneous AKR T-cell leukemia.
We have previously shown that monoclonal antibodies against the Thy 1.1 differentiation antigen can inhibit the outgrowth of a lethal inoculum of transplanted AKR T-leukemic cells. In the present report we have extended these studies to examine antibody therapy of aged AKR/J mice with spontaneous leukemia. Infusion of anti-Thy 1.1 antibody in frankly leukemic mice led to uniform early mortality...
متن کاملDifferential sensitivity of AKR murine leukemia and normal bone marrow cells to hyperthermia.
To determine if there is a differential effect of hyperthermia on AKR murine leukemia and AKR normal bone marrow cells incubated in vitro, the fractional survival of leukemic and of normal cells with proliferative potential as a function of heating exposure was estimated by evaluating spleen colony formation. Normal bone marrow colony-forming units were assayed in lethally irradiated (750 centi...
